A three year old child is a being who
gets almost as much fun out of a fifty-six dollar set of swings as it does out
of finding a small green worm. Hello and welcome to another issue of the RockIt Times! We are now up to an amazing 61 subscribers and are starting to pick up more daily! A HUGE thanks to those of you who have referred us to your friends, and a warm welcome to all our new subscribers since last month! I'm writing from the Chicago area. Not sure where you are located, but here in Chicago, summer can seem like an endless way away. Just when you think it is here, winter has a way of popping its head back in for a day or two to mess everything up. And, oh boy, am I ever ready for summer! First, because I am just a warm weather sort of gal. Then tied for first, the fact that warm weather allows my children to get out of the house on a consistent basis! Time to run and play for all of us! In this month's issue, we make sure we are all enjoying summer, whether we are stuck inside, playing in our backyards, or kicking up the sand on a beach! After all, what is better than a Hawaiian Luau to make you feel all summery and warm? I had such a good time with this issue, I have already reserved a Hawaiian themed indoor pool to have a luau for my son's 5th birthday in September. But why wait?! I have a special article for you this month, in honor of the several dads that we have as subscribers, and just as important for the moms, too. "Your Children Need To Play" will give you a professional's look at the importance of including creative and imaginative play in your child's daily routine. Hope you enjoy it! I'd love to get some feedback on the inclusion of the article, as well. If you like a bit of adult reading added into your play, I'd be more than happy to accommodate. Just let me know what you think by emailing me at rockittimes@rockitkids.com Okay, now I need a moment to just chat with you about something serious. I just completed a benefit page for two very special KidRock children who are suffering from cancer, 6-year-old Mia and 3-year-old Noah. Cancer is a terrible disease and very hard on the families that it affects. My mother-in-law has survived cancer on 3 separate occasions, and it never gets easier. But when it hits children, it just seems so incredibly unfair. I am a very spiritual person, and I truly believe that all things happen for a reason. But it is just so hard to see the reasoning behind beautiful young children suffering from something as horrible as cancer. Could the reason be that it makes a few of us look at the things that we lament about and realize how fortunate we actually are? Or to cause someone to open their hearts to others? Can it make us look at our own children in a new light and appreciate every day that we have with them? Then perhaps, just perhaps, the meaning won't be lost. Rock-It Productions is sponsoring a charity event to benefit Noah and Mia and their families. If you are in our area, we welcome and encouraged you to attend! Even if you are not in our area, you can check out Noah's and Mia's biographies and make a much needed and appreciated donation, by visiting: http://www.rockitkids.com/splash-tacular.htm Alright, go hug your kids, then start having some fun and enjoying life! Have a great month of June! Have a rockin' day! Reading Rocks! Recommendations
Hawaiian Luau A luau is a "Ohana" (family) occasion where everyone comes together to celebrate. There doesn't have to be a special reason to have a luau, either! It's just a day that's filled with music and dancing, love and smiles, beautiful flowers and delicious food, and, of course, good friends and family! This party theme may include the following songs or other Hawaiian themed songs:
Reserve
your party date today! Hawaiian Leis Hawaiian’s make necklaces from flowers. The flower lei is a symbol of an aloha welcome and love in Hawaii. A luau wouldn't be the same without pretty leis for you and your guests! Materials:

Hidden Treasure Hunt Warning! This is very messy, but very fun! Fill a small bucket or trough half full with water and enough sand to make it "squishy". Hide small treasures, such as shells, small toys and other items in the sand. Now let your child get up to their elbows, searching for their "treasure"! This is a great activity for for fine motor development and tactile stimulation, plus your child will have a blast on their very messy treasure hunt! Your Children Need to Play Your children need to play. They
need to play for many reasons. Many fathers today remember spending countless
hours playing with siblings or friends during their childhood. Parents would drop
you off somewhere and your There are many factors that make it more difficult for children to play in today's world. There is an emphasis on early academics. There is more TV watching today by children than ever before. There is the seductive attraction of video games. There
is also the need for constant supervision of our kids in urban environments. These
factors and others have helped to create Creative play is believed by many child researchers to form the foundation of emotional, creative, and intellectual growth in later years. It should be considered a normal part of a child's development. Sadly, many young children do not have the opportunity to engage in much creative play because they are presented with "alternatives" like video/computer games or excessive TV watching. While some of these alternatives claim to benefit children (train your child on computers early to get a head start!), there is nothing like creative play. Other alternatives do not allow your children's fantasies to roam freely. The idea of replacing your child's creative play with academic work may be based on good intentions, but will rob your child of a precious opportunity. How can fathers help to encourage imaginative play in their children? Many of us are not knowledgeable about this topic and have left this work to others. Here are some ideas: .
. All around us, the adult world is being thrust upon our children at earlier and earlier ages. We are encouraged as parents to help our young kids "get ahead" academically or to buy them the latest fads in toys. As fathers, it is your responsibility to look beyond all of this to what your children truly need. Your children need to do what they do very naturally when they are given the opportunity. They need to play. Give your children the chance to prepare themselves for life as an adult in the best way possible. It's the only chance that they're going to get. Mark
